Lesson 2
Lesson 1 - 31stOct-4thNov
- BND - P1 - hardware and software required for image processing
- Group activity: discuss and present on hardware in input, storage, processing and output groups, how they work with images.
- Hand in 10th November.
- BNC - P4, P5 and M2 (basic skills and advanced skills)
- Demo of skills - Work needs to cover all the skills
Halfterm
Lesson 8
- Class -BND - hand in P4&P5&M2 - printout and annotated + email me for backup
- Class BNC - hand in P1, P2, P3 and P6 - email first. Some hand in for final and some for 1st draft.
Lesson 7 P4 & P5 - Creation of Images
- Question basketball: Name PS skills you have learned, Paint skills, Image processing in PowerPoint
- Learn to use MS Visio - vector graphics package -for the map - centre classroom signposts
- End products must
- Demonstrate basic skills in Photoshop
- Demonstrate basic skills in MS Visio
- Demonstrate scanning and digital photographing skills
- Annotated screenshots
- End result is reviewed.
- Advanced skills for M2 - 2 or more (filter (lighting, extract, blur), layer effects, 3D, etc.)
Lesson 6 Digitising & Factors Influencing Image Quality
"The overall weight of ants on Earth is the same as the overall weight of all humans."
- LOs -
- Learn about factors affecting the quality of images - file type and compression techniques;
- Learn about different input methods (digitising devices)
- These will help with P3, P4, P5, M1, M3 and D1
- Question Basketball:
- Demonstration: MS Paint
- Tasks - see this file for templates
- Group of 3-4, one on computer to try the file types, the others on digitising methods (a sketch of logo).
- First support team for the 4 on computers
- Rotate and share with group
- Share with class
- Question time
- Type up for drafts of M1 (partial), M3 (partial) - deadline is to be announced.
Lesson 5A Complete P3
"There are about ten thousand trillion ants in the world. Even the sharpest ear cannot hear an ant singing."
- Complete and email the draft to me as your P3.
- Must include your name in the filename
Lesson 5 Client, User, Audience and Graphics Designer (P3)
- Introduction: you are about to start the graphic design tasks after P1, 2, & 6. First you need to understand the requirements for the graphics to be designed.
- The objective is to understand the requirements of your client, user and audience. This is to ensure a satisfactory design meeting their requirements. (You are the graphic designer.)

- Evidence: A presentation to explain all te above.
- Find a suitable image from the Internet. Identify its owner and try to get permission to use it. Evidence the process.
Lesson 3 Applying Knowledge (P1) to a Realistic Scenario
- LOs:
- consolidate hardware and software knowledge
- Apply to a real scenario to solve a problem.
- Question basketball: name a hardware device and describe how it works with images
- Group discussion: is each component suitable for image processing. Why? If not, what to replace it with?
- Share with class:
- Write up (report or presentation) as your P2. Then evidence in folder.
Lesson 2 Harware and Software for Image Processing
Hardware - 4 categories - input, storage, processing and output.
- create a presentation about them
- each device should include name, category, working principles (how it handles image)
- should include all relevant hardware devices,
- all should include a picture to iluustrate
Software - 4 types - vector graphics based, bitmap based, embedded facilities and photograph editing software
- create a presentation about them
- each should include include a list of the main features of the type
More features of Photoshop

- layer styles
- adjustment - layer, colour, levels, curves,
- resize - image- canvas size
Lesson 1 Start Practical Exercises
Familiarise with the workspace
- start a new file, size, resolution, colour, file size
- create new images - toolbox - paintbrush (size, colour, pattern); eraser (type, size); paint bucket (colour, opacity, tolerance); gradient (presets, new scheme), text (font, colour, warp, rasterising, re-editing); move tool; selection tool (regular shape marquee, lasso, polygonal lasso, magnetic lasso, magic wand); layer (add, delete, move, select, opacity); copy/paste from files or internet.
- edit image - text (before and after rasterising), image (edit-transform, free transform)
